All OpenLab CDS software versions need a valid license file (.lic) to work. The creation and insertion of this license file into your software is typically part of the software installation. Nevertheless, you will have to update your license file when: Updating the software or hardware enablements of your license, changing your computer name or MAC address (e.g. by changing the network card) or installing the OpenLab software on a new computer. For any of the previously mentioned occasions, you go through several steps using the SubscribeNet Portal accordingly. If there is a license issue, the OpenLab Software may generate the error messages "Not enough license features" or "Cannot connect to license server system". However, they can also point to a problem with the licensing servers.
Error Message
When opening the OpenLab program, one of the following exemplary errors may occur:
- "Unable to open this instrument because there are no licenses available. An error occurred connecting to the license server: Cannot connect to license server system."
- "Failed to Connect to the Instrument, Not Enough License Features."
- "Connection to Shared Services Failed."
Solution
Step 1: Check whether the license file is still loaded and valid
If the MAC address or computer name was recently changed, this may result in the license file becoming invalid. In this instance, the old license will need to be returned and a new license generated. This is discussed in a different solution article "How to add an OpenLab license"
Step 2: Restart the Agilent OpenLab services
- In the Microsoft Windows search bar type Services. Alternatively, go to Windows Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
- Stop the Agilent OpenLab services one by one, ensuring Agilent OpenLab Shared Services as last to stop. Select the service from the Name drop down list, then select the stop button Black medium square.
- Start the Agilent OpenLab Services, starting with the Agilent OpenLab Shared Services. Select the service from the Name drop down list, then select the run button.
- If this procedure resolved the license or the instrument connection issue, the firewall or antivirus settings on your OpenLab PC may be responsible for the issue. You may want to discuss with your IT department to modify your firewall and/or antivirus setting so they do not interfere with Agilent Services.
