ISSUE

For some installations, arising chemmain.exe crashes have been reported. Many of them can be eliminated by switching the Adobe Acrobate Reader to the so called "eProtected Mode". 


Incorrect Adobe Reader settings can also cause issues in generating reports in OpenLab Chemstation where nothing happens when trying to print reports or the online sequence aborts when reprocessing data in offline.


RESOLUTION

Adobe Acrobat Reader settings

1. Click Edit> Preferences in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

2. Select the General category.

  • Ensure that the Open documents as new tabs in the same window check box is cleared. If it is selected, Acrobat Reader may interfere with the ChemStation Report Viewer feature.
  • Clear the Show me messages when I launch Adobe Acrobat Reader check box. If it is selected, Adobe messages may interfere with the ChemStation software.

3. Select the Security (Enhanced) category.

  • Ensure that the Enable Protected Mode at startup check box is selected.
  • Ensure that the Enable Enhanced Security check box is selected.



4. Select the Tracker category. Ensure that the Show notification icon in system tray check box is cleared


Version of Adobe Reader

Some versions of Adobe Reader can cause problems when paired with specific versions of Windows.


Ensure Adobe reader is updated to its latest version.

1. Open Adobe Acrobat Reader

2. Click Help>Check for updates (must be connected to the internet)


If this does not work, try to reload the Adobe Reader that came with that Version of ChemStation software on the software media:

  • Disk1/Tools/Adobe Reader
  • Run AcroRdr_MUI.bat as administrator and follow the instructions of the Adobe Reader Setup wizard
