How to send Windows and OpenLab Log Files

When obtaining errors on the OpenLab software, it is sometimes necessary to send Agilent the log files from both Windows as well as the OpenLab software in order to determine what the cause may be. This requires that all logs are acquired, saved to a folder and zipped before sending them over a cloud-based platform (as they are often too large to send over email).

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Exporting the Windows Log Files

  1. Press the Start button, go to Windows Administrative Tools > Event Viewer (alternatively search “Event Viewer” in the search bar).
  2. Expand the “Windows Logs” section.
  3. Select “Application”. On the right hand-side of the window, select “Save All Events As…” and save it as “Applications Log.evtx”.
  4. Select “Security”. On the right hand-side of the window, select “Save All Events As…” and save it as “Security Log.evtx”.
  5. Select “System”. On the right hand-side of the window, select “Save All Events As…” and save it as “System Log.evtx”.

Exporting the OpenLab Log Files

  1. Open Windows File Explorer.
  2. Ensure that hidden files and folders can be seen by going to View > Options > Change folder and search options. Select the View tab and select “Show hidden files, folders and drives”.

        3. Go to C:\ProgramData\Agilent\LogFiles and copy the entire Log Files folder elsewhere.

Zip and Send

  1. Create a “Logs” folder somewhere on the PC.
  2. Move all of the Windows logs (Application, Security and System) as well as the copied OpenLab Log Files folder into this new “Logs” folder.
  3. Right-click on the “Logs” folder and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  4. The files will most likely be too large to email and can be sent via any of the following platforms:
  • Wetransfer.com
  • Free.mailbigfile.com
  • OneDrive
  • DropBox
  • Google Drive
